The Cape Winelands

A feature documentary on the Cape Winelands, told in the estates' own words — now in production, premiering 27 November 2026.

The Cape Winelands is a GeoParallax documentary filmed across six Cape wine estates — Groot Constantia, Constantia Glen, Delaire Graff, Babylonstoren, Bosjes and Waterford. Filming began in February 2025 at South Africa's oldest wine estate and follows each property through the seasons, every story told in the estates' own words. The film premieres on 27 November 2026.

These are the six estates the film is built from, in the order we filmed them — each one a chapter, each chapter told by the people who run it.

Groot Constantia

Season | 26 Feb 2025 - 25 Sep 2025

We sat down with Jean Naude, Groot Constantia's CEO. This is where South African wine began — planted in 1685 and farmed without interruption since. The year we first filmed there marked 340 years of continuous winemaking.

Constantia Glen

Dr. Alexander Waibel, the proprietor, told us the story himself. A single-family estate high on Constantia Nek, farming some of the coolest vineyard slopes in the Cape — and from that small patch, just five wines, nothing else.

Delaire Graff

Damien Joubert-Winn walked us through Delaire Graff. Laurence Graff's estate on the Helshoogte Pass pairs its vineyards with one of the country's great private art collections — Tretchikoff's Chinese Girl, one of the most reproduced paintings of the last century, hangs here.

Babylonstoren

Constance Stuurman, Babylonstoren's floral artist, gave us a different way into the story. A Cape Dutch farm dating to 1692, as famous for its gardens as its cellar — three hundred plant varieties, every one of them edible or usable.

Bosjes

CEO Carlen Vorster walked us through Bosjes, a working wine farm in the Breedekloof known for its sculpted chapel. Beyond the wine, the farm built, funds and runs a school — its commitment to the community around it.

Waterford

At Waterford the whole chain sat down with us: viticulturist David van Schalkwyk, cellarmaster Mark le Roux, and head of marketing Jeremy Maarschalk — the vine, the cellar and the story, each in their own words. A stone-built estate in Stellenbosch's Blaauwklippen valley where barely half the land is planted, the rest left wild.
