Privacy Policy
*Last updated: Arnold Petersen | 1 Sep 2026
This policy explains what personal information GeoParallax collects on geoparallax.com/geoparallax.co.za, why, and what happens to it. It is written to comply with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). The responsible party is GeoParallax, a sole proprietorship owned and operated by Arnold Petersen, trading from Waterkloof Glen, Pretoria; the information officer is Arnold Petersen, reachable at OWNER: support@geoparallax.com.
What we collect, and why
When you order the book: your name, email address, phone number (optional) and delivery address. We need these to take payment, post your book, and contact you about your order — nothing else. Stored on our own server in Germany, where it is protected to the same standard described in this policy and appear in the order confirmation emails sent to you and to us.
When you pay: payment itself happens on Payfast’s systems, not ours. We never see or store your card details. Payfast sends us confirmation of your payment (amount, reference, the name and email you gave them); Payfast’s own privacy policy governs what they hold.
When you use our contact forms or subscribe to the newsletter: the details you type — name, email, your message. Subscription lists are stored on our own server; we use them only to send what you signed up for, and every newsletter includes a way to unsubscribe. We do not use a third-party marketing platform.
When you browse: we use a self-hosted, cookie-free analytics tool (Umami) that records anonymous, aggregate page statistics. It does not identify you, does not set cookies, and does not follow you to other sites. We serve no advertising and no third-party trackers.
What we never do
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with anyone except the parties needed to fulfil your order: Payfast (payment) and The Courier Guy (delivery, who receive your name, address and phone number for that purpose only). We collect nothing we don’t need, and we don’t profile you.
How long we keep it
Order records are kept for 5 years to meet accounting and tax obligations, then deleted. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe. Contact-form messages are kept as long as needed to deal with your enquiry.
Your rights
Under POPIA you may ask us at any time what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it (where the law doesn’t require us to keep it). Email the information officer at the address above; we’ll respond within a reasonable time, and you may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za) if you believe we’ve handled your information unlawfully.
Security
Your information is held on our own server, protected by access controls and encrypted connections (HTTPS everywhere, including the order flow). Only I can access order records.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version appears here with a new date. We won’t reduce your protections retroactively.
